The Gorilla Highlands initiative is about networking, personal connections and working together to put our transboundary region on the global map. We are inviting chefs and senior representatives from Rwandan and Ugandan lodges to our central annual event, the Silverchef cooking competition at

BirdNest @ Bunyonyi Resort
Saturday, 13 May 2017.

This is the third Silverchef; you can see reports from the previous years on our blog. We are keeping the format that has proven successful but expanding our coverage area to the wider Gorilla Highlands region. We are inviting the lodges and hotels from

UGANDA: Kabale, Kanungu, Kisoro, Mbarara, Ntungamo, Rukungiri and QENP
RWANDA: Akagera NP, Gisenyi, Kigali, Musanze

As always, Silverchef 2017 will be an occasion to celebrate the culinary excellence of the Gorilla Highlands, foster cooperation and camaraderie and promote our region across the East African Community, and the world.

There will be no pre-determined number of winners. Every chef who meets the standards established by our international jury will receive a certificate of quality cooking. The absolute best competitor will win a silver hat.

Competitors will prepare meals using set ingredients that will be communicated in advance, and bought by the organisers using participation fees of USD 100. The fees also cover competitors’ accommodation and food.

This announcement opens the preliminary phase of Silverchef 2017 candidate selection. Please submit your chef through the form before Easter (by 13 April 2017). Before the beginning of May our jury led by Prof. Dr. Wolfgang H. Thome will announce the chosen competitors and send them the list of ingredients and further instructions.
