Borderline Adventure of the Man of Many Hats
Dear readers and watchers, Warm greetings from a simple man who does wear many hats… You have previously read about me as a founder in female clothes, learned about me as a lonely videographer and watched me as a dad deeply proud of the school his kiddos attend. Primarily, however, I will be your tour…

Fire, Death and Rebirth
50mm, 1.6s, f/4.5, ISO1600 We — humans, that is — seem to be irresistibly drawn to fire, as much for its beauty as for its destructive power. The sheer force of it can be mesmerising. The lava lake atop Mt Nyiragongo is one of my favourite places on Earth. I inevitably find myself enthralled by…

Survivor’s Tale
My readers, I am here again because the editor feels that I should update you on coffee at least once a month… I will, I promise. I already have the next topic in mind: how one properly handles coffee after harvesting it. However, as my March story I am offering something more about myself… I…

Taken just before dawn, it required a tripod, but I kept the shutter speed…

Top of the World
24mm, f/13, 1/250s, ISO100 The purpose of travel photography is often not just to make people wish they were there, but to give them an opportunity to truly picture it. Having a landscape like this helps, of course, and those of you who read my previous posts might recognise a half-hearted adherence to the rule…

Early Light
16mm, f/8, 1/500s, ISO250 The Gorilla Highlands region is, as the name suggests, characterised by its rather hilly topography. This is one of my favourite landscape photos from there, taken at around 4,000 meters/ 13,100 ft above sea level during an exhausting hike up Mt Kirisimbi. Miha joined me shortly afterwards, while Izy was wise…

Name-Calling in the Virungas
Hello, my friends? I am back home from what we call the prevention area, the zone in which we are kept isolated for two weeks as we track mountains gorillas. Today I want to tell you about some of my favourite gorillas. I know the names and personalities of about 150 of them but some are…
