Explore Rwanda With Expert Guides This February

Wish to have our expert birder Hawa and Congo Nile Trail specialist Cesar show you their home country? Join our guest from Italy, Catherina Unger, on a very special February trip through Rwanda!

As a seasoned traveler and tour agent, Catherina has plentiful fascinating stories to share. Her passion for travel photography also promises some stunning shots along the way …

4-6 February 2025:  Our birding queen, Jeanisse Hawa, will drive Catherina from Kigali to Karongi/Kibuye via the remarkable palaces of Nyanza. She’ll spend two nights near Nyungwe NP, exploring highlights like the canopy walk and the waterfall hike.

7-9 February: Catherina will be in the distinguished hands of Cesar Niyonkuru during her three hiking days on the Kivu lakeshore. For the sake of our client’s photographic gear, they will avoid all wild river crossings.

10 February: A well-earned rest day in Rubona, a charming peninsula near Rubavu/Gisenyi, where Catherina can photograph traditional fishermen and Lake Kivu’s serene beauty.

11 February: Hawa will guide our adventurer to the edge of Volcanoes NP, checking en route on Pfunda tea, Roz Carr’s Imbabazi (photo below) and Rwanda’s first chocolatier. A welcome dinner at the Gorilla Highlands residence is on the itinerary too!

12 February: Catherina will take on Mount Bisoke (3,711m/12,175ft — see its lake below), visit the Ellen Campus, and continue to Lake Burera for a two-night stay.

13 February: The most unusual day on the travel plan will introduce Catherina to both traditional and modern healing — she will encounter magic trees, the Nyabingi museum, the impressive Butaro Teaching Hospital and a renowned herbalist to round out her experience.

Catherina is eager to share her journey with fellow adventure seekers like you! Whether you join her just for a segment or the entire tour, you will help her add Rwanda to her outstanding African travel record: Benin, Botswana (3x), Cabo Verde, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Namibia (10x), Morocco, Mozambique, São Tomé & Príncipe, Senegal, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania (8x), Togo, Uganda, Zambia (3x), and Zimbabwe!
