The Gorilla Highlands Press Trip we organised in November 2015 is slowly showing results. One of our participants was Jiro Ose, an award-winning Japanese photojournalist who lives in Kampala. His portfolio is remarkable; he has taken photos during the historic Congo elections, in the middle of the Sudanese refugee crisis, at the time when Jean-Betrand Aristide was chased from Haiti, amidst the war in Iraq and elsewhere. Ose is behind this two-page article that appeared on the pages of Aera, a Japanese weekly magazine, in February 2016.

Jiro Ose took part in the 2015 Gorilla Highlands Press Trip, and left a fantastic photo library behind. He has received several global photojournalism prizes, including the Award of Excellence at the Pictures of the Year International competition for his coverage of elections in DR Congo. After spending nearly 15 years in Africa, three years on Beirut and five years in Indonesia, Jiro recently relocated to Bangkok, Thailand. [bio updated: 2026-03]
