Lake Kayumbu on the Ugandan side of the Gorilla Highlands region has a twin called Lake Chahafi. Both lakes have swamps with many bird species and sport fishing opportunities. This area is a hiking sleepover on the way between Lake Bunyonyi and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.
During World War I the Germans fought the Anglo-Belgian coalition at Lake Chahafi; trenches can still be seen. Lake Kayumbu has one island — owned by Uganda’s former ethics minister Nsaba Buturo.

Meet New Trekking Hosts at Lake Kayumbu
